HI All
I have been reading quite a few threads and you guys seem to know your way around BMW's ... luckily.
I have a 1998 e36 318is and i have recently had a few issues. About 9 months ago, the water pump packed up and the car overheated and caused the head to blow.
I have found a good mechanic and he has gas flowed the head for me. Fuel consumption has improved by around 5 to 10 % and there seems to be a little more power on higher revs.
The problem i had initially before the gas flow, was that The idle regulating valve had broken and the car was sluggish from 1000 to 4000 rpm. It almost seems to drag until 4000 and then shoot to 7000 after wards. It also has a slight sort of stall when cruising and not accelerating. If i don't push in the clutch there is a sligght backfire at this point.
I have since replaced the idle regaulting valve and seems to have helped a bit but there is still that backfire and sluggishness. I read a write up on cleaning the Idle control valve, but after stripping the throttle body, i could not find it. I have the M44 engine.

Questions i need to ask:
1. Is there an ICV on the m44 engine
2. if there is, where is it?
3. What else could cause this problem? (mechanic suggested remapping the ECU
4. A friend of mine said a DYNO would help as well.
This is the last thing that i need to get sorted onmy car to get it running nicley again. A friend of dropped from robot to robot with a 1600 Jetta 2 (by a bonnet lenght, but still) and its not fun as i raced him before and he had no show.
Further to that, i am about to fit in a sunroof in my car and i can get the original E36 sunroof, but was wondering if the glass E46 sunroof would fit as well.
Any help would be great...
Thanks
