Would any of you like to recommend Spark Plugs for my 328ic? They are the only tune up item that I have not replaced since I purchased my 97 convertible. It has 120k on it and I suspect they could use replaced. From what I can tell, Bosch and NGK make plugs for it. I recently had a mechanic, who seemed to know what he was talking about, say Bosch are junk. Thoughts?
Bosch are OE. I doubt BMW are going to be putting "junk" spark plugs in their cars. I also have personally never had a problem with the Bosch plugs I have used in my 328i or any other car for that matter.
That being said, I'm currently using NGK BKR6EIX-II and I'm perfectly happy with them.
Theres lots of people who complain about Bosch but not very many who who back it up with any good reasons why.
I use nology silver spark plugs in my BMW silver is the best conductor of electricity and i have noticed a difference in power also they last for ever mine have been in the car for about two years now and every service i take them out clean them up and check the electrode gaps and they stay like new. Try this link http://www.nology.com/silver.html this is where i got mine from and they weren't as expensive as some of the splitfire ones. Hope this helps. Michael.
I forgot to mention i also use nology hotwires these are ignition leads and are loads better than any other i have tried. They have a built in capacitor so the spark is hundreds of times more powerful than standard leads.
The reason behind the iridiums being so popular is that as present conductivity isn't the major concern with plugs. What do you believe increased conductivity is gaining you?
Iridium allows us to have a finer tip 0.6/0.4mm resulting in a brighter and hotter spark for the same amount of current.
I can't speak personally about silver plugs but last plug change I experimented with new OE, Platinum and Iridium plugs. Iridiums were the clear winner... and there's too many stories of up to 3 prongs breaking off and ending up in the cats.
Just want to ask, is NGK BKR6EKIX (iridium plugs) suitable with standard engine e36 m52? I want to buy it but I heard rumours that iridium plugs are not suitable for standard engine, these plugs are only for racing car and the best plugs for standard e36 m52 is NGK BKR6EK (standard plugs). Please share info....thank you
Not all spark plugs are created equal. Some spark plugs can improve performance, while others provide long-term life. Some can make your lawn mower easier to start, while others resist pollution.
