Problem with a an E36 Coupe passenger door window...the plastic cog in the window motor has strippod and I think the cause may be a sensor that should stop the motor when the window closes.. on my coupe the windows open slightly when the door handles are used and close the windows when the doors are closed, hence my thoughts re sensors..........Any Ideas
hi ya I had the same problem but with the driver's door, you will need to get another motor as I doubt there is a fix for that cog, the window is supposed to drop and close when door is opened or closed to prevent damage or breaking the glass. More than likely your problem is the same as mine was, that is, you probably need to make all the window adjustments correct, so what I would do if I was you is get hold of a copy of Bentley bmw Manual from a friend or Library and a new or used motor,a pair of the plastic window sliders that fit in the bottom slide channel under the glass lower edge, these are very fiddly to fit but not impossible, if its not been done before you will need to drill out all the rivet's holding the motor and mechanism to the door frame and replace with 10 ml nuts bolts anti slip washers then make all the measurement to the glass and the mechanism as per manual finish by holding the button down for ten seconds after the window closes or as the manual says good luck with that and be patient because it is fiddly, both my windows on my 328i coupe work perfect now every time
