Been noticing alot lately the small puddle underneath my car every morning, iv had bigger things to sort out in general the last while so i put it on the back burner.
Finally got round to tackling it today, iv known for the last few weeks that it was Dexron III, wouldn't mistake the smell of it from a mile away after getting a mouth full of the stuff last year!!!
Jacked the car up to inquire where it was coming from and spotted the dark wet patch pretty quickly. Quick inspection and i was certain as to the offender of leak in question. It was the return pipe that connects the power steering cooling rack to the ATF reservoir. Small pipe, about 18inches long, 1.5inch wide and a 60degree bend 1/4 of the way up.
Picture of pipe and damage on it here.
Youl see the pipe im holding and the end of it is all flared and ripped.
The gold colored bit of metal attached to the cooling rack is called a crush clip.

Decided i was actually going to replace the pipe instead of just bodging it back.
Tried to find the part number but couldn't anywhere so rang BMW and gave a descripton of the pipe and the bolk says "ahh yea, i know it well"
I asked for a price and he said give me a minute, came back a minute later and said "including the crush clip that attaches it to the cooling rack, your talking €115 including VAT"
I asked how much the crush clip was, out of curiosity. His answer, €14.90!!!
What a rip off, €15 euro for a fancy jubilee clip.
Ended up cutting back the ripped part of the pipe (about 1/2inch) and reattaching with a reinforced jubilee clip!!!
Cost= .79cent for the Jubilee clip and 20minutes of my time!!!
I asked when on the phone to BMW how much they would charge to do the job for me, again out of curiosity, and they said about €250 including labor!!!
