car wont start

hi im new to the board iv just bought a bmw 328 convertable 1997 p plate
here goes the guy i bought it from lost the key and while the car was left someone stole the radio
got a new key and it turns the ignition on but wont turn over any help much appreciated

Sounds to me like the imobiliser isn't recognising the new key so won't allow the car to start . You may have to take it to Mr BMW so they can do whatever they do to make the car recognise the key. The key has a chip in it that the car has to recognise before it will start.
