Convertible top question 98 E36 (Automatic Top)

I have recently had an issue with closing of the tonneau cover (rear deck lid) on my 98 323ic.
When it pulls the lid down and closes completely instead of it finishing its task and engaging the next motor it starts vibrating and shaking the lid until I turn the key off.
It seems that if there is a lockout in the motor is not working and the motor that operates the lid keeps running and may be bad. Any advice or experiences would be great as this motor, if bad, is over $500CAD. Thanks everyone, have a great day!
