e36 convertible auto window drop

hi,
i have an e36 318 cabriolet and it has a small(i hope) window problem.
When i open or close A, the windows dont drop or raise. the drivers side window appears to be in its 'lower' state already. By this i mean that it is open approx 10mm and will not close fully.When i operate it manually, it goes down and raises but only to this same point, even with the door closed.
The passenger window operates fine manually but not automatically with the door.
I have tried the 10 second reset down then up but it is exactly the same.
any help is much appreciated.

need help how do you do 10 second reset my convertible passenger window wont go up on auto and switch works in reverse and window wont go down when lowering the roof drivers side fine driving me mad
