fast tapping coming from engine 325

hi guys.i bought a e36 325 of my mate bout 2 months ago and i was all good.few weeks later i had to change the thermostat.now when i start it i can hear a lil tapping noise which i thought was low oil so filled it up and it went now it comes and goes but it starts then just stops and is fine.but i also have a high pitch screaming noise which i think is the alternator bearings but not sure.anyone got any ideas?

try an engine flush and new oil.
m50 has hydrolic tappets.
has worked on a 525i 1993 i owned a couple of years ago

Id second the engine flush and oil change, let us know if it sorts it out!
