Installing Instrument Cluster in my 325i a question.

Postby pirretbmw3series on Mon Aug 03, 2009 5:18 pm

]Hi there it might seem a silly question. I have ordered a Instrument Cluster for my 93 325i as the revs gauge is bouncing all around the place and after researching I thought it best to replace the entire cluster unit. All I wanted to know is once I have done this, will my original millage on my cluster screen show up on the new instrument? Is this information saved in the car else where? I don't want to install this and then it reads back the wrong millage to me. Can some one please let me know if it is fine for me to go ahead with installing the new part?[/b]

I don't think replacing the instrument cluster will help you with your RPM bouncing issue. It's most probably that your idle control valve (ICV) needs a good cleaning.

The millage value is stored inside the instrument cluster itself, so replacing it will change your millage reading value.

Thank you very much. Now can you tell me where I find the ICV? I however did put the second hand unit in this morning and all went well rev's gauge too. You were right though the mileage was different to my cars. So I took the unit back out and swapped the dial into my unit and feeling very proud of myself and so I put it all back together and now the rev's gauge is bouncing back all over the place again! :? So what to do next... I will try and find out were this ICV is and go from there. Any direction would be warmly received. Thanks Dan
