lost my keys for my bmw

Postby simon_rs on Tue Sep 27, 2011 10:15 pm

i lost the keys to my bmw its been a total nightmare tbh anyway

if i was to buy a new/2nd hand lock set can i get a new key coded to my ecu etc ? or bypass it ?

i really dont want to strip and scrap a very good car but its sort of looming there at the mo as bmw said to cut and a copy of my key etc would be £700 quid

ive found a full lock set on ebay for £5 quid so cost of a new window the locks and then getting it coded cant come to that much

thanks for any help

Well if someone knows how to bypass the ecu do you think they will tell you how to steal their BMW ...... I hope not.... also if you break a window to get in the car the doors will still be locked you need the key to unlock the doors so you still can't open the door to get inside the panel(as far as I know all BMW's have this system) sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Ok well obviously the 318 is a little different I know my 323 won't unlock without the key I have tried this by leaving the window open so I can try to open the door and it's a no go'
So since you already had a car stolen we should all make it easy for someone to steal everyone elses car or should we make it harder .... think about it before you get upset
Another bit of advice maybe check you insurance policy it may be like mine and have a free key replacement clause if you loose your key. Might be worth a shot.

My 325i vert also works that way...no key no unlock doors. Must be a difference in models. I am still trying to figure out why my 1995 325i vert (produced 7/95) has a chip in the key when everything tells me it do not. Was it an option you could order? I do not think the ECU would recognize the replacement lock set. I think you would need to locate someone who could "marry" them after installing the new. A BMW indie here in my area said he could program a new key to the existing system for $65....but I have a key to model from. I wish you luck....I am sure someone on the forum has an answer...hopefully they will see the post.
