Oil leaking after overheating

Postby 328I_Dan_97 on Fri Jul 03, 2009 12:43 pm

Hi, I have a 97 328I that is a great running vehicle, since I am new into BMW and amazed at the power in the 328I engine. My wife was about 5 miles from home when the engine overheated, she pulled to side of road, we let the car sit till that evening and after I filled the cooling system I was able to drive the vehicle the five miles home without any problems. The engine performed great. When I pulled into the driveway and got out of the car I noticed smoke coming from the center underneath the vehicle which turned out to be oil that was leaking and running back on the exhaust system and burning. This engine had no oil leaks what so ever prior to over heating. I have not driven the car since, I am replacing the water pump, thermostat and gasgets today. Oil is coming from somewhere under neath the engine. Also, there is no coolant and engine oil mixing together. Anyone hear of this happening and where I should be looking for the oil leak?

thanks

Dan

Your gonna actually have to get under the car and find the oil leak!
