Understanding Error Codes

Postby compact on Thu Nov 19, 2009 6:13 pm

Hello,

I have a bmw 316i compact 1997- it has just passed mot with a little work ball joint and new clock spring required for horn,

it has delvoped a problem in driving the car it keeps cutting out if the revs drop below 1000,

i have had the car diagnostics done today- now am little unsure as to which is the main problem and what will get my car running bak to health,

Here is what we got :

78 coolant temp sensor
41 airflow sensor signal
20 lambda control
70 o2 sensor circuit

now i could just replace all and more than like will do in time but am strap on cash at the moment with xmas and kids birthdays comming up

so if any of you could help or surgest which is the best one to first and would hopefully slove the problem,

Thank you all for your time and help

Kindest Regards,

stephen

Hi Stephen,

I think you should start with the lambda control and the O2 sensor circuit. It's possible that replacing the oxygen sensor or at least checking the wires that are coming out of it may solve the problem. The Airflow sensor error may cause an issue too, but apparantely, the coolant temp sensor will not have any effect on it.

I hope this helps.
best regards,
